Will The Congressional Blue Tsunami Help Or Hurt The Plan To Save Hollywood?

American voters issued a stunning rebuke of the Trump Administration on Tuesday night by electing Democrats to take control of both chambers of Congress come January. A Dog’s Perfect Christmas review: Netflix kicks off holiday movie season with a whimper

Dennis Quaid is wasted in a predictable drama with a cute basset hound and not much more US election results may still be trickling in, but Netflix has already made the call: ’tis the season! Just four days into November, with leaves still on the trees and much of the country stuck in T-shirt weather, the streaming service has decided to hit full-send on the longest possible window for cookie-cutter cheer and fake snow; as of now, Christmas is a go. And with an opening salvo like the plainly titled A Dog’s Perfect Christmas, one would think the company has given itself a running head start to the holiday mass market. Or, at least, a cute-enough face, courtesy of one sweet basset hound and a corgi puppy, to possibly work as a naked attention ploy. A Dog’s Perfect Christmas, from A Dog’s Purpose creator W Bruce Cameron, does at least have the decency to set the scene before Thanksgiving and acknowledge said ploy; if there is one thing a grumbling man named “Sander Goss” (a constipated-looking Dennis Quaid) and I can agree on, it’s that they keep starting Christmas too early. ‘We’re all on constantly shifting sands’: the play capturing life during the US midterm elections

Playwright Richard Nelson’s acclaimed Rhinebeck Panorama series returns for another timely look at the fictional Apple family living in a divided America Richard Nelson learned a great lesson, cliched as it is, late in his writing career: the thing you toss off without overthinking can end up being some of your life’s greatest work. In the program notes for We’ll See, the latest in what has become a 12-play series, he admits he used to view the plays as “disposable, because of their being tied to a given time and place”. Every November from 2010–2013, Nelson checked in on the fictional Apple family in upstate New York during elections and important national anniversaries, with each play set on the day of its premiere and mostly starring the same cast. (We’ll See, which opens this week at the Public Theater, sees them awaiting the results of the midterm elections.) Continue reading...

The Key 2026 Midterm Races Hollywood Is Watching

As encouraging as polls are for Democrats, left-leaning Hollywood activists are viewing Tuesday’s midterm elections with a lot of anxiety — and just a bit of cautious optimism. In fact, throughout the cycle, as candidates courted the industry’s deep pockets at tony backyard venues and one-on-one phone calls, the fatigue of donors was well apparent, […]
